Mazama Science

An academic, stylish rebrand to connect two generations of data analysts.

Mazama Science Co-Founder Jonathan Callahan lived and worked in a highly-specific, academic world in Seattle, WA. He helped a diverse array of clients visualize and analyze large, high-value datasets with interactive tools—the vast majority of whom were solidly middle-aged. On the other end of the spectrum his employees were young, bright college students, nearly all from nearby University of Washington.

He approached Bantam about a rebrand, wondering whether it was possible to more effectively reach middle-aged clients and college interns with a data-centric, age-defying brand? Bantam's answer was a resounding yes.

The mark is evocative of early computing graphics, and features a mountain range with reflective water (and subtle M and S shapes for those looking really looking hard.) Bantam explored apparel branding options to demonstrate the versatility of the full mark and standalone icon.
Open source data is at the heart of the Mazama Science approach. Because they walked their talk, they requested a custom Bootstrap build with clear access to company site code, as well as links to project-based code when allowed by client agreement.
Mazama Science needed a stylish, subdued site that was suitable for intern recruitment, and also allowed easy access to project code and details for researchers seeking to drilldown into specifics. Warm custom photography and expert design and development brought their data-focused vision to life.
